How to Eat Right

By on 02:00

Eating right isn't supposed to be difficult; we've managed it for centuries, so why is it such a problem all of a sudden? Some of it is about the ease of access to bad food types and some of it is because we have such an abundance of food to choose from that hasn't been the case historically. And some of it is because of information overload - knowing what is good and bad for us isn't always clear and is sometimes made overly complicated. Here are some ways to learn to eat right.

Steps

  1. 1
Learn which foods are good and which foods are bad. Clearly sugary foods like chocolate and candies are unhealthy when eaten constantly and in great quantities. Yet, a treat now and then is fine. To know what is healthy, look at your country's food pyramid for the serving suggestions, types, and portions.

  2. 2
Prefer unprocessed over processed. Unprocessed foods have less ingredients, are in their raw forms and are usually healthier than the processed forms of food. The more processed an item, the unhealthier it is likely to be. If nutrients have to be added to your food to make it edible, then be suspicious. Reduce your intake of fast foods.
  3. 3
Grow your own food. Harvest it and eat it. It's good because you know where it's come from and what has been put into it. Gardening is also a fun hobby
  4. 4
Cook. Cooking at home ensures healthier food than eating out all the time.
  5. 5
Avoid fast food. Treat it as a treat; something to have occasionally rather than as a regular food item.
